Working Title: Dr. Howard Eye Care Plus

Author: Jordan Howard

Date: April 22, 2010.

Subjects: I had three people evaluate my website that I am working on for our final project. None of the participants had seen my website before, that way, it was easy for me to obtain an unbiased opinion regarding my website.

Think Aloud Task: Comment on your first impressions of the site and then tell me what insurance companies they accept at Dr. Howard Eye Care Plus.

Summary of Think Aloud: “ I feel that this website is very well designed. I like how there are directions on the website coming from northbound and southbound. I found that to be quite helpful, especially if I were unfamiliar with the area. There aren’t too many words on the website that make it feel cluttered, but there aren’t too few of words that you are left unclear of the material.” (Participant 1, my sister.)

“I really liked this website because for my eye doctor’s website, it is really hard to navigate through the pages and find the information I am looking for. It does seem a little plain, so I would maybe add a few more pictures or words to a few of the tabs. Overall, I like the simplicity of it though because that made navigating through the website a lot easier for me.” (Participant 2, girl I live with).

“Finding the list of the insurance companies that Dr. Howard accepts was so simple. I simply clicked the tab that said “insurance” and there it was. As I was wondering around more of the website, I felt like I actually was able to get to know Dr. Howard a little more, which made me feel comfortable in using him as my own doctor. The only thing that I would manipulate on this website would probably be to add a few more pictures on the main screen.” (Participant 3, random person in library.)

All three participants stated that the intentions of this website were immediately clear to them from the first second they were allowed to preview it. I got a few suggestions of adding more pictures to the front page, and throughout the website, as well as maybe a little more information in the “about us” section, but that was basically it. They all three commented on how easy to manipulate and map through the website. Everything is clearly layed out, easy to find, and direct. It was easy for them to return to the home page without hesitation, and all commented on how they liked that there were easy-to-follow directions on the site.

Summary of Posttest: Discussions revealed that my website might be too plain and simple. By adding a few more pictures, words, links, etc, I will be able to take this suggestion and utilize it to my advantage by adding more of everything to my site. I got positive feedback on how the “comments” tab included a link to YELP. There are some people that are fully reliant and trusting of YELP that those who are, can look at this link and see all the positive feedback about Dr. Howard.

Findings to be Implemented: The findings that I will be implementing would be the suggestion I received about adding more pictures, links, and words throughout the website, yet still maintaining the direct and preciseness of the website. I am also going to add more information into the “About Us” section, so that the reader really feels like they know Dr. Howard on a more personal level because that helps invoke trust between doctor and patient.

Findings that will not be Implemented: Suggestions that I received from my participants that I am not going to change is the color scheme on my website. Although it is relatively plain, it adds to the simplicity and manageability of the website as a whole.
